After many consecutive months of price increases, the domestic construction steel market has recorded the first cooling signal since the beginning of 2026. The move to reduce the selling price of a series of large steel manufacturers is bringing expectations of more stability to the construction industry in the context of high raw material costs.<\/p>\n

Steel prices fell for the first time after many consecutive increases<\/strong><\/h3>\n

As recorded from the market in early June, many large steel producers such as Hoa Phat, Viet Duc and a number of other construction steel enterprises have simultaneously adjusted to reduce the selling price of coils and rebars. The reduction ranges from 150 to 300 VND\/kg depending on the type of product and consumption area.<\/p>\n

In the Northern region, the price of coil decreased by about 170 VND\/kg, CB300-V rebar decreased by about 250 VND\/kg and CB240-T coil decreased by about 150 VND\/kg. Meanwhile, the Central market recorded a stronger adjustment with coil decreasing by about 220 VND\/kg, CB300-V steel decreasing by 300 VND\/kg.<\/p>\n

This is considered the first price reduction after a series of increases that have lasted from the beginning of the year to now. Previously, many steel manufacturers continuously adjusted to increase selling prices due to pressure from input material costs and recovering consumption demand. Particularly at the end of March, some businesses increased prices from 300,000 to 600,000 VND\/ton.<\/p>\n

Cost pressure still keeps the price level high<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Despite the downward adjustment, the current steel price level is still considered significantly higher than the same period last year. According to construction materials businesses, since the beginning of the year, steel prices have increased by about 350,000 \u2013 600,000 VND\/ton and used to fluctuate around 16.2 million VND\/ton.<\/p>\n

The supply of steel in the market is still maintained stable. However, the price of construction materials in general has not had many opportunities to decline deeply due to the influence of many factors such as rising transportation costs, fluctuating fuel prices and the demand for civil construction is gradually recovering.<\/p>\n

Experts believe that the current decline is mainly a technical adjustment after a period of heating. At the same time, consumption demand has not met expectations along with the downward trend of iron ore prices on the world market are also factors contributing to pulling steel prices down.<\/p>\n

Construction contractors expect to reduce cost pressure<\/strong><\/h3>\n

For construction enterprises and contractors, the move to reduce steel prices, although not large, is still considered a positive signal. Steel has always been one of the materials that accounts for a significant proportion of the total construction cost.<\/p>\n

The stable or slight decrease in steel prices can help construction units be more proactive in estimating, controlling costs and improving financial efficiency for ongoing projects.<\/p>\n

Many experts believe that if market demand does not improve significantly in the near future, steel prices may continue to maintain a stable trend or decline slightly in the short term.<\/p>\n

Prices of construction materials still have differences between regions<\/strong><\/h3>\n

While steel prices are starting to cool down, many other building materials remain high, especially in areas with large infrastructure investment needs.<\/p>\n

In Hanoi, the price of golden sand currently ranges from 550,000 to 700,000 VND\/m\u00b3, popular 1×2 crushed stone from 420,000 to 520,000 VND\/m\u00b3 and terracotta bricks from 1,450 to 1,750 VND\/tablet.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh City and the Southeast region, the demand for materials for belt, highway and transport infrastructure projects caused the price of concrete sand to exceed 700,000 VND\/m\u00b3 at one point. The price of construction stone in Dong Nai and Binh Duong also recorded a sharp increase, even exceeding 700,000 VND\/m\u00b3 for orders delivered directly to the project.<\/p>\n

The market continues to monitor price movements in the coming months<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In the context that many key infrastructure projects and real estate projects are being promoted, steel price movements will continue to be a factor closely monitored by construction enterprises, investors and material suppliers.<\/p>\n

Although this downward adjustment is not enough to create a big change in the price level, this is still a positive signal that the steel market is entering a more balanced phase after a long period of heating. If the factors of supply, demand and world raw material prices continue to be favorable, the market can fully expect more sustainable stability in the coming time.<\/p>\n
