Acid pickling has the goal to remove the iron oxides or scales from the steel surface to expose a bare area on which a zinc layer can be place in subsequent process steps. To prevent corrosion during pickling a corrosion inhibitor is recommended as well as a fume suppressant (against nitric gases).
